Using math in my everyday life

Growing up and being in different math classes always made me question when I would actually use the material outside of math class. I always wondered why we would have to learn all of this new stuff when we would only need to memorize it for the class and never use it for anything else. But I was wrong! Math is used outside of the classroom everyday whether we realize it or not. When I go shopping and something is on sale, for example, if it's 30% off, I calculate it myself before I get to the register and if something doesn't necessarily look right I'll question the cashier and either I'm right and they'll fix it, or they're right and I just did the math wrong. But either way, I would've needed to learn about decimals and percents in math class to realize how much money would've been taken off the original price. Cooking and baking requires math because of the ingredients that you might have to convert to other measurements because you don't have the correct cooking appliances. When doing art work it's necessary to use math skills because of anything you have to do that requires using a ruler or measuring how much space you need to create a project. Most importantly, math is used everyday when thinking of how much gas you need to use to get from place to place. Thinking about the amount of gas you need to use vs. how much money you have for the day requires you to use your math skills. Considering we're getting older, using the bank for our checking and savings is obviously really important and necessary. If you didn't have any math skills, figuring out how much your boss just paid you the week before would be really difficult. Lastly, and probably the most important to me, would be going out to a restaurant to eat, because you need to add the tip to whatever your bill is, so you need to know percentages. It's obvious that math is a huge part of our everyday lives whether we choose to see it or not, but without being educated with basic math concepts, it would be really hard to do the things we do everyday.
